Clarke Schools Launch First-Ever Drive to Recruit Volunteers
Athens Banner-Herald (GA), August 10, 2012
Last school year, 17 volunteers put in thousands of hours at seven Clarke schools through the Foster Grandparent Program, a partnership with the Athens Community Council on Aging that places low-income volunteers in schools. The volunteers serve as mentors and tutors for children deemed at risk. For serving 15 to 40 hours each week, the volunteers, aged 55 or older, get a small stipend, insurance, meals, transportation, and training. Read more >>

Evaluation in Philanthropy: A Team Effort

Hartford Foundation, and Twin Cities Strive, in partnership with Greater Twin Cities United Way, were selected as recipients of the third round of federal Social Innovation Fund grants, joining the ranks of 16 more organizations previously selected to identify and support proven programs with the ability to transform lives in low-income communities across the country. Created in 2009 by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, the Social Innovation Fund leverages public and private dollars to address some of society's most pressing problems. Read more >>
