AmeriCorps Week Highlights the Value of Service

AmeriCorps deploys more than 80,000 men and women each year to help tackle big challenges in areas such as disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families.

Since 1994, AmeriCorps members have given more than one billion hours and mobilized tens of millions of volunteers to meet community needs. AmeriCorps Week, March 10-March 18, recognizes and celebrates the exceptional commitment and impact generated by AmeriCorps members. The two main goalsfor the week are to:

  • Communicate the powerful impact that AmeriCorps has on big community challenges and on the lives of its members and alumni.
  • Connect AmeriCorps members and alums with each other so they feel they are a part of a cause much larger than themselves or their individual project.

This year's theme, “AmeriCorps Works,” emphasizes the value and effectiveness of AmeriCorps and highlights its triple bottom line return on investment -- for the individuals, families, and communities that benefit from the service of AmeriCorps members; for the people who serve in AmeriCorps; and for the larger community and nation.

Here are some resources that have been designed to help AmeriCorps members, AmeriCorps host sites, AmeriCorps grantees, and our partners in the national service network get involved and show their support:

Learn how you can highlight your work by using the AmeriCorps Week Impact Kit. You can also use social media to share the positive impact that AmeriCorps has on our communities. Join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter (@AmeriCorps, #AmeriCorpsWeek), and don't forget to use hashtag #americorpsweek.
