As part of United We Serve’s Energy and Enviornment Week, the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC) in Pennsyvania conducted a two-week volunteer initiative. Volunteers came from across the country to make minor home repairs, renovations, and weatherization. Over 200 youth volunteers performed 6,750 hours of work on 33 homes the first week.
The work continued during a second week with more than 40 local volunteers, including employees from Alliance Bank, the New Life Worship Center, Yeadon Borough, and several local high schools and colleges. Volunteers provided more than 400 hours to complete work started the previous week and take on more projects in the neighborhood. During the second week, volunteers completed eight more homes and finished work from the first week at one home.
In total, CAADC organized 7,189 volunteer hours to renovate or weatherize 41 homes. The renovated homes belonged to elderly, disabled, and low-income residents of Darby, Lansdowne, and Yeadon Boroughs.
