Taylor Matthews founded tay-bandz, inc. at age 11, when she was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer. The shock of the diagnosis soon gave way to the horrible reality that the treatments for her disease were modestly successful, at best, and that precious little funding for pediatric cancers or philanthropy was available. Taylor was horrified that thousands of children were suffering from a terrible disease; yet, their cries for help were being ignored.
Tay-bandz is a 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding pediatric cancer research. Tay-bandz is a kids-helping-kids organization that has raised in excess of $1 million dollars for cancer research.
Taylor bravely fought her illness for five years, without a complaint and with a strong compassion for helping others. In February 2008, Taylor lost her battle, but the fight continues. Taylor had a dream. She dreamed that ordinary people would make a difference. She dreamed that "someday no child will ever have to face cancer."
The child is gone but the fight and the dream continue. Please help us continue the fight and make Taylor's dreams come true. Do it to honor the memory of this amazing young girl. Do it to change the face of pediatric cancer.
Taylor's mom would love to speak in her honor and memory to raise awareness for the need for research for all pediatric cancers. Taylor always said.. "it would all be worth it if one life could be saved."
