Today, while many of you are joining in the carnival spirit of Mardi Gras, volunteers from across the country are preparing to attend the 2011 National Conference on Volunteering and Service in New Orleans June 6-8.
Convened by Points of Light Institute and the Corporation for National and Community Service, the annual event offers attendees opportunities to learn, connect, and be inspired through a wide range of plenary sessions, workshops, special events, service projects, exhibits, and specialized tracks.
The gulf coast keenly understands the importance of volunteering and service to strengthen community bonds and take sustained action. Since 2005, millions of people have given their time, talent, and resources to help in recovery efforts to build and repair homes, schools, shorelines, playgrounds, parks, and lives.
And now, with the gulf coast reeling from its second disaster-driven blow in five years, the region's largest city is not just the natural choice to host the 2011 gathering—it is the only choice.
Join us in New Orleans, enjoy its famous spirit, see change in action, and stay tuned for more updates in the coming months.
